Our works throughout the years

Season 13

2021-22

׳The Jerusalem Orchestra East West׳

1. "The Queen from Istanbul"

Conductor:

Linet, an Israeli singer who lives in Turkey and has become one of their most loved and successful artists, is returning to Israel after many years. The concert features the songs that made her who she is today, ranging from Turkish Arabesque classics to some musical surprises. Guest artist: Baglamas virtuoso, Itzik Rikan.

2. "Ehud Banai—Seminal Songs on His Musical Journey. Special Guest: Sama Shufani"

Conductor:

The orchestra is proud to host Ehud Banai, one of the artists responsible for crafting Israel’s musical DNA. Banai sets out on a journey that passes through the Persian piyut he grew up on, rock influences that left an indelible mark on his music, his first successful release and his rise to stardom with massive hits that are part of all our lives. Between songs, Ehud will treat us to his famous storytelling abilities and will host singer Sama Shufani, who will shine a spotlight on a special period of his career.

3. "One Thousand and One Nights"

Conductor:

Classic Arab hits from the Middle East with unique and refreshing arrangements in the orchestra’s language. On stage, two extraordinary performers whose popularity dissolves borders—the vocal virtuoso and prince of Tarab, Ziv Yehzkel, and Diva Violet Salameh with her mesmerizing voice. On stage 1: the young talent Alex Hori whose video clips went viral during the Corona pandemic on the Arab world’s social media.

4. "Gnawa!"

Conductor:

An intense rhythmic performance combining, for the first time on an Israeli stage, the energetic musical style typically played by the Berber tribes in North Africa, with arrangements in the orchestra’s unique language that will take it into the realms of jazz and pop. Gnawa singer-artist and guembri player Mehdi Nassouli is coming to us from Morocco and will host, on stage, three Karabakh musicians (a traditional instrument) who will also perform responsorial singing. A not-to-be-missed musical experience!

Guest artist: a dear friend of the orchestra, Omri Mor (piano).
