׳The Jerusalem Andalusian Orchestra׳

1. Season Concerts:

Bamboleo

A lively concert of Spanish music comprising the genre’s greatest hits such as Bamboleo, Djobi, Djoba, Volare, and more.

Participants: Los Niños de Sara (Spain / France) and Yehuda Shawki.

Voices of Yemen

A concert dedicated to a geo-cultural phenomenon that is specific to Israel—the Kerem HaTeimanim neighborhood, which produced bands such as Tsliley HaKerem and Tsliley HaOud, and artists like Suleiman the Great, Daklon, Ahuva Ozeri, Boaz Sharabi, and more.

 

Participants: A-WA band and Shai Tsabari.

Habibi

A concert to mark 60 years since the passing of Asher Mizrahi, one of the greatest Spanish-Jerusalem, Sephardi piytan-cantors—led by Sofi Tsedaka.

Participants: Yuval Taieb, Moshe Louk, and Shalom Ivry.

Homage to Fairuz

A special concert dedicated to Fairuz, the legendary Lebanese Diva and one the most important cultural icons in the Arab world.

Participants: Mira Awad, Riham Hamadi, and Guy Mintus (piano).

East West Series Israeli Opera Series—Season 1:

Bonnes Chansons

The best of France’s classic chansons, Yves Montand, Charles Aznavour, Édith Piaf

dressed as authentic North African, Arabic, and Turkish music.
Participants: David D’or, Ella Daniel, and Ariel Bart (harmonica).

Homage to Jo Amar

A tribute to a Middle Eastern legend. A nostalgic, moving experience comprising a selection of Jo Amar’s most popular songs, one of the architects of Mizrahi music in Israel, from hits to piyutim.

Participants: Emil Zrihan, Yoni Roeh, and Orit Atar.

Wahran, Wahran

An authentic performance that blends European musical styles with the irresistible rhythms and scales of the Maghreb.

Participants: Berry Sakharof, Amir Benayoun, and Omri Mor (piano).

The Eternal Umm Kulthum

A tribute concert to Egyptian classism—the music of Umm Kulthum, Mohammed Abdel Wahab, Abdel Halim Hafez, Farid al-Atrash, and more played with contemporary orchestral arrangements.
Participants: Nasreen Qadri, Ziv Yehezkel, and Ramzi Bisharat (rik).

2. Off-Season Notable Concerts:

Kulna—Mekudeshet Festival

Tom Cohen chose, together with the soloists, new and old songs to be sung on stage. We were swept away with crazy energy, a lot of Arabic and Hebrew and infectious optimism that oozed out of the music and straight into the heart. The concert laid the foundations for a simultaneously realistic and absurd prospect—a successful Middle East.
Participants: Kamel Suliman, Muhammad Mughrabi, Adi Keissar, Luna Abu Nassar, Shai Tsabari, Nasreen Qadri, Apo Sahagian, Ziv Yehezkel, and Dikla.

Original Morocco

International concert — a celebration of North African music

Participants: Rashid El-Alami and Dia Zanzibar.

A’afak

An original, North African Jewish creation

Participants: Gusto and Pinhas Cohen (Morocco).

Moroccan Alliance

An annual event of the Union of Morocco Emigrants in Israel, the Charles Bronfman Auditorium in Tel Aviv.

Participants: Emil Zrihan, Moshe Louk, Lior Elmaliach, and the Jerusalem Boys’ Choir.

Summer’s-End Festival

Women’s singing in a slew of languages and traditions

Participants: Neta Elkayam, Narkis, and Liora Itzhak.

Piano Festival

Musical mask ball.

The Holon International Women's Festival

One Sound for Coexistence

Arabesque Festival, Acre

In this festival, we will try to present the Middle East that we all dream of, in which the classics of Fairuz from Lebanon, Farid al-Atrash from Egypt and our Avihu Medina—empower and elevate one another.
