1. Season Concerts:
Middle Eastern Rebetiko
A refreshing Middle Eastern concert. Magical music from Greece and its environs, rebetiko, Ladino, and classical music.
Participants: Shlomi Saranga, Mor Karbasi, and Neri Friedner (bouzouki).
Homage to Samy Elmaghribi
A tribute concert to piytan, soloist, and one of the biggest Jewish stars to come out of Morroco—the late Samy Elmaghribi.
Participants: Emil Zrihan, Benjamin Bouzaglo, Liz Maman, and Albert Gigi.
Chanson by Immigrants from Two Worlds
Concert—dance, co-production by the Orchestra with the Orly Portal Dance Company
Participants: Mark Eliyahu (kamancheh) and Amir Shahasar (Persian ney).
East is East
Two Israeli artists with an unusual connection to Arab Culture. Dudu Tassa, through the music of his ancestors—the Kuwaiti Brothers, stars of Iraqi music who played with Mohammed Abdel Wahab and Umm Kulthum. Alongside Rahela, who sings Khaliji and Bedouin music and is hugely popular in the Gulf States.
Participants: Dudu Tassa, Rahela, Nir Maimon (bass), and Barak Kerem (drums).
2. Off-Season Notable Concerts:
Ladino and Piyutim from Home
Guy Zu-Aretz and the orchestra, in a unique performance of the Ladino songs and piyutim he learned from his father. A journey into Guy and his brother’s root tells the story of his family who immigrated to Israel from Lebanon and Tripoli.
Participants: Guy Zu-Aretz (piano).
For Your Voice is Sweet
Women Voices at the Libi BaMizrah festival —the concert celebrates the extraordinary Jewish-Arab singers from Arab countries and North Africa who revolutionized the music of movie theatres and theaters in the 30s.
Participants: Raymonde Abecassis, Liz Mamon, and Rahela.
Tel Aviv Jazz Festival
Middle Eastern arrangements at jazz standards
Participants: Eldad Zitrin.
Moroccan Alliance
An annual event of the Union of Morocco Emigrants in Israel.
