׳The Middle Eastern Andalusian Orchestra Ashkelon׳
1. Season Concerts:
Andalusian Flamenco
A vibrant performance that weaves together the passion of Flamenco music and dancing. An on-stage collaborative performance accompanied by the orchestra and two of Israel’s best Flamenco dancers.
Participants: Yehuda Shawki, Yael Horwitz, and Sharon Saguy’s dance troupe Flamenco Natural.
The Eternal Umm Kulthum
A tribute concert to Egyptian classism—the music of Umm Kulthum, Mohammed Abdel Wahab, Abdel Halim Hafez, Farid al-Atrash, and more played with contemporary orchestral arrangements.
Participants: Nasreen Qadri, Ziv Yehezkel, and Ramzi Bisharat (rik).
Maghreb Chanson
New French Maghreb music that mixes different styles of chanson and jazz with the rhythms and melodies that the North African immigrants brought with them. Authentic connections between East and West, old and new, which unfold as one, to create sounds that are in harmony with where we live.
Participants: Mounir Troudi (Tunisia), Agam Buhbut, and Omri Mor (piano).
Purely Instrumental
The spotlight hovers over the first line of the orchestra. Each musician is a virtuoso soloist with their own unique style and control of the strings, the instruments, and their talent which are expressed through the musician’s personality and playing. Complex instrumental pieces alongside new, original compositions created especially for this evening.
2. Off-Season Notable Concerts:
A collaborative concert tour with the French star, Enrico Macias
Moroccan Alliance
An annual event of the Union of Morocco Emigrants in Israel
Participants: Shimon Sibony, Benjamin Bouzaglo, and Emil Zrihan.
Homage to Maurice El Medioni
A tribute concert to a legendary Algerian pianist and composer, Maurice El Medioni, in which he performs songs and compositions from his decades-long international career.
Participants: Maurice El Medioni, Neta Elkayam, and Emil Zrihan.
